Dental examination
“Prevention is better than a cure”.
At will St Dental, we offer comprehensive dental examinations to detect any early signs of dental problems such as caries, gum diseases, oral cancers. Most dental problems can be either prevented, reversed or treated easily if detected at early stage, saving you both time and money. Our dentists here at Wills St Dental recommend 6 monthly dental examinations.
Scale and Clean
The accumulation of plaque and tartar can cause bad breath, gingivitis (red, swollen and bleeding gums) and periodontitis (receding gum and bone that support your teeth). Regular scale and cleans at Wills St Dental will remove general staining and the buildup of plaque and tartar while also providing advice and tips on how to improve your oral hygiene at home.
Fissure Sealants
All teeth are naturally formed with grooves and pits, some can be deep and narrow making them higher risks for the development of caries as it can be very hard to keep them clean.
If we notice these deep grooves, we do recommend that we place a fissure sealant, a thin coating that creates a more even surface that is easier to keep clean.
Dental Radiographs (X-rays)
Dental radiographs, or x-rays are essential to providing well rounded treatment. Both intra-oral (small x-rays taken inside the mouth) and extra-oral radiographs (large jaw x-rays) are routinely taken here at Wills St Dental using the latest digital equipment.
Dental x-rays are used as part of a comprehensive dental examination to check the health of existing fillings and restorations as well as the bone that supports your teeth. We also use x-rays when diagnosing pain, during root canal treatment and before tooth extractions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is preventive dentistry?
Preventive dentistry focuses on maintaining healthy teeth and gums through regular checkups, cleanings, and early detection of dental issues before they become serious.
How often should I have a dental checkup and cleaning?
Most patients are recommended to visit every 6 months, but your dentist may suggest a different schedule based on your individual needs.
Why are regular checkups important if I have no pain?
Dental issues like decay or gum disease can develop silently. Regular visits help catch problems early, often before you notice symptoms.
What can I do at home to maintain good oral health?
A good oral health routine at home is essential in looking after your teeth, gums and any dental restorative work. Brushing twice a day with a fluorine toothpaste and soft toothbrush as well as flossing at least ounce per day are basics everyone should complete daily.
At what age should my child start visiting the dentist?
We recommend that children have their first dental visit by age one or when their first tooth appears. Early checkups help monitor development and establish good oral health habits from the start.
